Expertise and leadership development

Systematic learning and staff development are important to us, because the benefits of these can be seen at both a professional and personal level. We also encourage communication and discussion among staff, and we welcome new thoughts and ideas.

Most of the Bank’s employees have a higher academic degree. Reliable, high-level research is a key, which is reflected in the Bank’s large number of experts with a doctoral degree.

You can put your skills to use and develop them further.

Collaboration with experts in the same field and with other colleagues provides learning opportunities every single working day. We put together annual development plans and monitor their implementation. The training programmes offered by the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) are available to our staff. In addition, we organise continuous training programmes for staff which focus on developing their skills as experts. The Bank also has its own library.

Skills development is prioritised – there are in-house training events and we are also encouraged to attend external training.

The Bank offers its employees diverse opportunities to develop and broaden their skills. These include:

  • job rotation within the Bank of Finland, and between the Bank and the FIN-FSA
  • secondments to the European Central Bank or other central banks within the Eurosystem
  • training arranged by various national central banks or the European Central Bank
  • membership of Eurosystem working groups
  • in-house seminars and training
  • external training and seminars.

We are trusted – trust in our competence and self-management skills as experts.

The Bank of Finland also focuses strongly on developing leadership and management skills, offering both in-house and joint ESCB leadership training. Our managerial staff take part in continuous training programmes. The Bank’s leadership vision obliges every line manager to continuously improve their leadership skills and to facilitate the development of their team. Leadership quality is monitored annually by means of a management index.
