Monetary policy
Finland is part of the euro area, whose single monetary policy is implemented by the Eurosystem. Monetary policy influences how much you have to pay to borrow and how much interest you receive on your savings.
As a member of the Eurosystem, the Bank of Finland participates in the preparation, decision-making and implementation of the euro area’s single monetary policy. The Governor of the Bank of Finland is a member of the Governing Council of the ECB, which takes decisions on the euro area monetary policy, such as the key ECB interest rates. The purpose of interest rate decisions is to maintain price stability in the euro area.
