Description

Financial accounts form a part of the system of national accounts. They describe the financial assets and liabilities of the sectors of national economy and financial transactions affecting the amount of these assets and liabilities. In addition to asset and liability positions between domestic sectors, financial accounts also cover data on financial asset and liability items between Finland and the rest of the world.

Financial accounts are a set of statistics derived from other statistics. For example, source statistics include balance sheet data on monetary financial institutions, balance of payments statistics as well as investment fund and securities markets statistics, all compiled by the Bank of Finland.

From January 2011 onwards, the Statistics Finland compiles both annual and quarterly financial accounts statistics in Finland.
