Balance of payments in May 2010

Current account

  • In May 2010, the current account posted a deficit of EUR 0.8 billion, compared with a deficit of EUR 1.1 billion in May 2009.
    • In BOP terms, the goods account was EUR 0.4 billion in surplus.
    • Dividends paid abroad on portfolio investment amounted to about EUR 1.0 billion on net, ie about the same as a year ago. From the start of the year, these payments have totalled some EUR 2.0 billion, which is also roughly the same as a year ago.

Financial account

  • Net capital outflow of EUR 2.4 billion.
    • Net inflow of EUR 0.2 billion in direct investment.
    • Net inflow of EUR 0.7 billion in portfolio investment.
    • Net outflow of EUR 3.6 billion in other investment (loans, deposits and trade credits).
 Corporate foreign liabilities

Net international investment position (niip) at the end of May

  • Finland’s NIIP positive in the amount of EUR 3 billion.
    • Finnish residents’ foreign assets EUR 515 billion.
    • Finnish residents’ foreign liabilities EUR 512 billion.
  • Finland’s NIIP excluding equity items negative, in the amount of EUR 44 billion.
