About the reformed website and open data services
The Bank of Finland has reformed its website to make it more modern and easier to use. We have added a separate page for open data on the website and built a tool on this page to facilitate the data search.
Bank of Finland website was reformed
The Bank of Finland website was reformed in the autumn. We clarified the look of the site and made improvements to its usability. The reform is shown to our users as a harmonised website, clearer content, fresh look and reformed human-centric imagery.
In the Statistics section, the content is grouped by publication type, similarly to the old site. The usability of the Statistics landing page has been improved and the content has been grouped at the beginning. Next, we highlighted the most frequently used content, i.e. the most recent statistical releases, Euribor rates, foreign exchange rates and the statistics calendar showing upcoming statistical publications. In addition, the Bank of Finland’s landing page now shows current information on interest rates, foreign exchange rates and housing loans.
The Statistics section continues to provide statistical data in the form of tables and charts, dashboards and the open data service. Going forward, we will put a particular emphasis on interactive dashboards allowing users to access our statistics in an easy and visual way and to conduct their own analysis.
Open data service as a tool for monitoring statistics
We want to remind our users of the Bank of Finland and FIN-FSA’s joint open data service. The service is a collection of application programming interfaces (APIs) that can be used to machine read data for your own processing purposes.
One of the APIs provided is the Timeseries API. The Timeseries API contains the Bank of Finland's public time series whose figures are used, for example, in tables, charts, dashboards and other statistical publications. The API can be used, among other things, to build a regularly updated Excel workbook to monitor statistical figures consisting of data relevant to you.
The Statistics section of the website has a page focusing on open data. The page has an embedded interactive dashboard whose purpose is to present the data content of the Timeseries API and help formulate API queries. The dashboard was built using the API, and its data content always corresponds to the data content of the API. Further assistance for the use of the API can also be found in the instructions compiled last year.
