New business on long-term savings agreements remains modest
Finnish households concluded 1,181 new long-term savings agreements in the third quarter of 2012. In the second quarter, there had been 1,557 new agreements. At end-September the total number of long-term savings agreements was 23,620. At end-September the value of the savings was EUR 38.2 m, which was EUR 5.3 more than in the previous quarter. The bulk of the savings was invested in fund shares (64%) and shares (20%).
Loans
Households' new drawdowns of housing loans amounted to EUR 1.6 bn in September 2012, which is slightly less than in September 2011. The average interest rate on new housing-loan drawdowns fell by 0.02 percentage point from August, to 1.82%. At end-September the stock of euro-denominated housing loans was EUR 85 bn and the average interest rate on the stock was 1.83%. The annual growth rate of the housing loan stock moderated slightly in September, to 6.1%. At end-September household credit com-prised EUR 13 bn in consumer credit and EUR 15 bn in other loans.
New drawdowns of loans to non-financial corporations (excl. overdrafts and credit card credit) amounted to EUR 1.8 bn in September, which is about EUR 1.5 bn less than a year earlier. The average interest rate on new corporate-loan drawdowns fell by 0.01 percentage point from August, to 2.03%. At end-September the stock of euro-denominated loans to non-financial corporations was EUR 63 bn, of which loans to housing corporations accounted for EUR 15 bn. The annual growth rate of the corporate loan stock fell to 6.4%, from 7.4% in August.
Deposits
At end-September the stock of household deposits amounted to EUR 83 bn. The average interest rate on the stock was 0.83%. Overnight deposits accounted for EUR 46 bn and deposits with agreed maturity for EUR 22 bn of the total deposit stock. In September households concluded EUR 1.4 bn of new agree-ments on deposits with agreed maturity. The average interest rate on these fell to 1.34%, from 1.42% in August.
