Call for Papers: Bank of Finland's 23rd Simulator Seminar: Harnessing Emerging Technologies for Financial Market Infrastructures

The 23rd Annual Simulator Seminar, organized by the Bank of Finland, will be held in person in Helsinki (Finland) on August 28-29, 2025. It is supported by the Journal of Financial Market Infrastructures (JFMI). This year's special theme is " Harnessing Emerging Tecnologies for Financial Market Infrastructures ".
Keynote speakers
- Jorge Cruz Lopez (Journal of Financial Market Infrastructures) providing a keynote on 28 August, 2025
- Mikko Möttönen (QMill and Aalto University) providing a keynote ”The rise of quantum computers and their use cases” on 29 August, 2025
We invite submissions on financial market infrastructures (FMIs), Payment systems, and particularly their data-driven or computational studies. Special focus is given for the use of new or emerging approaches such as AI, machine learning or quantum computing. Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- FMI Simulations or development of simulation methods
- Use of AI, ML or quantum computing approaches with FMI data
- Novel designs or functions of FMIs
- Instant payments and CBDC
- Traditional FMI studies: Stress Testing, Risk metrics, Liquidity in FMIs, Critical Participant Analysis, Payments Behavior and Early Warning Indicators
Submission Details
Those submitting papers should note the following:
All papers should be submitted via the following the instructions below.
- Submissions are encouraged from policymakers, practitioners, and academics.
- Extended abstracts of 750 to 1500 words – or completed papers, if already available – should be sent in Word or PDF to tatu.laine(-at)bof.fi to be received no later than Friday, 16 May 2025.
- Authors will be contacted with a decision on their submission by end of May 2025.
- Successful authors will be asked to provide a presentation and preferably a full paper no later than Friday, 15 August 2025.
- Authors will be given 25 minutes to present their paper at the conference, followed by a short presentation by a discussant and open discussion
- Full papers presented at the conference will also be considered for publication in the special issue of the JFMI according to that journal’s usual procedures http://www.risk.net/static/risk-journals-submission-guidelines .
However, review by the JFMI will be a separate and independent exercise conducted by the JFMI and not the conference organizers.
- For the avoidance of doubt, having a paper selected for the conference is not a guarantee that it will be published in the JFMI in a special issue or otherwise.
- The JFMI may also consider for publication papers on the conference themes that are not accepted for presentation at the conference.
- There is no fee to attend. Lunch on both days and a conference dinner will be provided. Authors of accepted papers will be responsible for their travel and accommodation costs.
