Together with the Bank of Italy (Banca d’Italia), the Bank of Finland will organise an international high-level conference entitled ‘Challenges of the Global Crisis to Macroeconomic Theory and International Finance’. The conference will be held in Helsinki on 11 June 2010 and commemorates the academic career of Pentti Kouri.

Pentti Kouri served as an associate professor or professor at Stanford, Yale, New York and Helsinki universities 1975–1988. The conference will address three key areas of economic research: ‘Macroeconomics and the great recession’, ‘Exchange rates and global adjustments’ and ‘Financial stability and growth’. The conference will end with a panel discussion on ‘Current policy challenges’.

The conference brings together top-level academicians and central bank governors as speakers, commentators and panelists. The conference will be hosted by the Governors of the Bank of Italy and the Bank of Finland, Mario Draghi and Erkki Liikanen.
